A Piece of My Day

1.6: God willing…

Posted on: Thursday, 6 January 2011

I tease my Episcopal brethren and sistren seminary friends about their copious use of the term, “God willing” – like when they are speaking about their upcoming ordination, for instance. I tease them – but there is a humility to their use of the term which also gives me pause. What they are really doing is placing their future in the hands of God where it clearly lies already – but a little two-word reminder doesn’t really hurt.

So, here I am, lying in the guest room of my in-laws for what will be our last night here – God willing. The weather gurus now tell we will be dodging a second blizzard – God willing. And so even though there would be incredible irony in having our flight home delayed by a blizzard (since our flight here was delayed for two days), I’m ready to go home and sleep in my own bed and to see my dog and house and friends.

And so, dear Lord, I lie here tonight, beseeching Thee to vouchsafe and bless we Thy servants as we journey tomorrow, and may it be Thy will to bring us home. Amen!

And may God’s peace be upon our night,
